ITV News has announced that Tim Singleton has been promoted to Deputy Editor, alongside his present duties as Director of Newsgathering.
Currently responsible for all home and foreign newsgathering operations, Singleton will work closely with Editor Geoff Hill building on ITV News’ reputation for distinctive content and award-winning journalism. Tim started his career in regional newspapers before joining ITV Yorkshire in 1992. Following his move to ITV network news in 1998 as Deputy News Editor, he has worked in the field across the world on a number of major breaking stories such as the second Gulf War, the Asian Tsunami, war in Kosovo, the civil war in Baghdad and earthquakes in India and Turkey. Next, Tim became Westminster News Editor where he drove campaign coverage of the 2005 general election, before being promoted to Foreign Editor later that year.
As a highly-respected Foreign Editor, he oversaw a series of award-winning stories including the devastating earthquakes in China, Haiti and Pakistan and the crisis in Zimbabwe and he was responsible for opening new bureaux in Beijing and Dubai. In 2011, Tim took up the role of Assistant Editor and Head of Newsgathering, where he was in charge of complex coverage of the ‘Arab Spring’ and the ongoing conflict across Syria and the Middle East. He became Director of Newsgathering for ITV News in 2013.
Of his promotion to Deputy Editor and Director of Newsgathering, ITV News, Tim Singleton said: “To help lead a team as talented as this one is a rare privilege. Tim has played a fundamental role in securing a number of Emmy, Royal Television Society and Foreign Press Association award wins, as well as an unprecedented three BAFTAs in a row, for coverage of the earthquakes in China and Haiti and the Cumbria murders. He is a trustee of the Rory Peck Trust and a board member of the International News Safety Institute (INSI).
