ITN Productions has produced four original factual podcast series for Audible as part of their new UK specific Audio Shows offering. This is the first time that the award-winning production company has produced audio-only content. Two series, The Dark Web and Real Crime, went live when Audio Shows launched earlier this month with two further series, When The World Listened and Sounds of War, to be made available later this year.
Investigative 10-part series The Dark Web is fronted by former Channel 4 News technology correspondent Geoff White. Each roughly 25 minute episode sees him explore criminal activity ranging from sex trafficking and fraud to government secrets and anonymous hacking groups. Real Crime sees Britain’s most chilling crimes are brought sensationally to life in this compelling new series, using court room transcripts, police interviews, 999 calls, secret audio recordings and eye witness testimonies.
Geoff White said: “Having covered the dark web for more than six years, I thought I’d seen it all. But making this series has revealed a deeper, more shocking story. From its bizarre origins in the US Navy’s research lab, to its role in gun-running, drug-dealing and freedom-fighting, the dark web is at heart a unique social experiment that asks one basic question: given the choice, will humanity choose good over evil?”
Jonathan Pascoe, Head of Short Form Content, ITN Productions said: “It’s an exciting time for audio production, and we are delighted to share these documentaries with Audible members. The Dark Web, fronted expertly by Geoff White, is a fascinating insight into the murky underworld of the internet, with surprising results.
“Real Crime acts as an intimate examination of some of the UK’s most infamous cases – and our experienced journalists guide you sensitively through the sometimes highly-emotive audio. We look forward to sharing the other series with members, and future opportunities for audio at ITN Productions.”
Steve Carsey, Director of Original Programming at Audible UK, said: “Audio is booming and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this gripping, insightful and ground-breaking series to audio lovers across the country. Geoff’s reporting for The Dark Web is truly remarkable – he probes deep into the dark, unknown corners of the internet to shine a light on its murky underbelly. How do we reconcile a free, unrestricted and open internet with the laws and frameworks that are intended to keep society safe? Beyond the drugs, weapons and crime, what are the ways the Dark Web can be used for good? These are just some of the questions Geoff expertly explores throughout this 10-part documentary.”
Audio Shows launched in February 2018 with 14 Audible Original series, commissioned by Audible’s multi-award winning producers, available to stream and download now at www.audible.co.uk/audioshows.Back to All Press Releases
