ITV News has announced that Anushka Asthana will be ITV News’ new Deputy Political Editor.
Anushka joins the Westminster team with decades of news experience – from her time in newspapers and broadcast. She also currently works alongside ITV News’ Political Editor Robert Peston on the channel’s flagship political programme Peston, as well as key roles covering the 2019 general election and 2020 US election for ITV.
Anushka comes from The Guardian where she is Editor-at-Large and Lead Presenter of their award-winning daily podcast, Today in Focus. Previously, she was their first-ever joint Political Editor, Senior Political Correspondent at Sky News as well as working for The Times, The Observer and The Washington Post.
ITV News’ Editor Rachel Corp said:
“From the Peston show to her contributions to our Bafta nominated General Election Programme, Anushka has been part of ITV News for some time. I am delighted that now in her new position as Deputy Political Editor we can welcome her as a permanent fixture to our Westminster team, where I know she will be able to bring more of her distinctive brand of warm, intelligent, thoughtful journalism to our programmes.
Anushka Asthana said:
“Brexit followed by the Covid crisis has meant a tumultuous period for British politics and I’m excited to be joining the ITV news political team at such a critical time in Westminster. For the past few years co-presenting on Peston, I worked closely with Robert and his colleagues and look forward to joining them as we seek to hold the powerful to account and make the sometimes confusing world of politics accessible.”
Anushka will begin her new role in the summer.Back to All Press Releases
