British cycling has enjoyed a landmark night, with three world records tumbling at the Olympic Velodrome on Friday.
Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish took gold for Great Britain in the women's team sprint on the second night of the event - the second record of the night.
Australians and World champions Kaarle McCulloch and Anna Meares set the venue's first world record in qualification on Friday afternoon, clocking 32.828 seconds in the two-lap event.
But shortly afterwards the Brits beat their rivals to win in a new best of 32.754secs. McCulloch and Meares clocked 32.945secs.
The British duo, world silver medallists behind Australia last March, had set a national record of 32.966 in their heat and tonight's ride showed the remarkable progress the pair have made in the event, which will be part of the Olympic programme for the first time this year.
Later in the evening, Great Britain's Joanna Rowsell, Dani King and Laura Trott set a world record of three minutes 18.148 seconds to take gold in the women's team pursuit.
The win came 23 weeks before the opening ceremony of the 2012 Games on July 27, with the competition in the velodrome taking place from August 2 to 7.
The venue has been almost universally praised by cyclists and critics alike.
