FA 'did not consider' sacking Capello

    Thu Feb 09 2012 12:41

FA chairman David Bernstein has said the issue of sacking Fabio Capello never arose and the situation is "as it is".

During a press conference to address Capello's resignation as England manager, Bernstein said the FA had a "full and frank meeting" with the Italian and "it was Capello's decision" to resign.

"We went in with concerns but with open minds," he said.

Bernstein went on to say that Capello "certainly was expensive, but not a mistake".

However, he did "sympathise" with his feelings that his authority had been undermined, following the FA's decision to strip John Terry of his England captaincy.
