Manchester City are hoping to have captain Vincent Kompany available for Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool after appealing against his suspension.
The Belgium defender is banned after he was controversially sent off against Manchester United on Sunday.
City are stretched with defender Kolo Toure and midfielder Yaya Toure on international duty, while there are injury concerns over playmaker David Silva and strikers Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli.
Midfielder Gareth Barry is, however, available after returning from suspension.
