Yaya Toure struck twice on Wednesday night as Manchester City bolstered their hopes of Champions League progress with a convincing win over Villarreal at El Madrigal.
Making his first appearance in the competition this season, Mario Balotelli was also on target from the penalty spot as City recorded back-to-back wins over the Spaniards to move second in Group A.
Despite influential David Silva leaving the field clutching his back at one point, it was a result that rarely seemed in doubt as City dominated throughout.
Although their hopes of reaching the knockout stage could still hinge on their next away assignment at Napoli, they do now have a two-point advantage over the Italians which a win will make certain.
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany said his side would focus solely on themselves in anticipation of the forthcoming match.
"It's a big game, but that's what you play Champions League for," he said.
"We've always thought if we do our job properly then we are as strong as anyone. We don't need to look too much at the other teams, we can win every game."
On tonight's game, the Belgium defender added: "We put in a good shift and did everything as we planned it.
"We didn't do anything crazy, we were patient and it paid off for us."
