Commenting on the nominations, an ITN spokesperson said: ‘ITN is delighted to receive a bumper 19 RTS Awards nominations. This is an important testament to the quality of Channel 4 News and ITV News coverage and a welcome recognition of our first-class output.’

Jim Gray, Editor, Channel 4 News said: ‘It’s incredibly rewarding to see Channel 4 News nominated for 11 awards. It has been a momentous news year with plenty to work with, and it’s great to be recognised for our distinctive take on the big stories as well as our commitment to original journalism. ‘

Jonathan Munro, Deputy Editor of ITV News, said: ‘The RTS nominations reflect a very strong year for us, beginning with world class coverage in Haiti. It’s particularly pleasing that our nominations span such a wide range of awards – home and international coverage, programme of the year, innovative news coverage, specialist and non-specialist correspondents. Any newsroom should be proud of its record in developing new talent, so we are especially pleased to have a nomination in the Young Journalist category, and to have the skills of one of our cameramen recognised too.’

The RTS Awards celebrate creative and excellent journalism in UK news and current affairs.

The awards ceremony, to be hosted by Channel 4 News’ Krishnan Guru-Murthy, will take place on Wednesday 23 February at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
