ITV commissions ground-breaking documentary following easyJet’s rookie pilots from ITN Productions

  • 9pm 3×60 minute series following easyJet’s pilots-to-be as they take off for the very first time
  • Unprecedented access to the easyJet pilot training scheme.
  • With women making up only 5% of pilots worldwide, the series will include inspirational female role models and efforts to increase the proportion of female recruits.
  • For the first time this series will use unique, in-cockpit footage filmed using a mini fixed-rig.

ITV have commissioned a ground-breaking series revealing what it takes to become an easyJet pilot.

easyJet: Inside the Cockpit (w/t) will observe the future flyers of one of Britain’s largest airlines as they are trained up and take on the challenges of the modern-day commercial pilot.

In association with international airline pilot training and resourcing organisation CTC Aviation, the ITN Productions 3x60” series will join pilots at every stage of their intensive course – from the moment they are accepted onto an airline pilot career programme with CTC Aviation , to their first solo flight, first passenger flight following the  ups and downs of mastering take-off and landing.

The mini fixed-rig in cockpit will allow a glimpse into a hidden world, usually closed off to passengers, capturing those crucial moments which we’ve never seen before.

Due to TX in the 9pm slot on ITV in 2017, the series will also shine a light on easyJet’s efforts to increase the number of female pilots, who currently make up just 5% of the world’s flying professionals. Unlike most other professions the proportion of women has not changed for decades, something easyJet has pledged to change. easyJet has set ambitious targets which, through a variety of initiatives, aims to double the number of new female pilot recruits over the next two years. During the series viewers will meet women at every stage of their pilot career from the new female recruits to the female captains and trainers who have blazed the trail.

The series will also investigate the changing role of the pilot as it becomes ever more customer-facing. As well as being at the controls of an Airbus at 30,000ft, easyJet pilots are responsible for up to 186 passengers on every flight and have to be able to communicate effectively with them.

Currently women make up 6% of easyJet’s new pilot intake. The airline has pledged to double this to 12% over two years (end of September 2017) and aims to increase the proportion of new entrant easyJet pilots who are female, whilst maintaining the highest recruitment standards.

This new initiative gives more support to females looking to enter the profession.
