Berbatov and Robinho deals done
Manchester United have signed Dimitar Berbatov while Manchester City snapped up Robinho just before the transfer deadline.
United spent £30.75 million on Berbatov, completing a deal that had been widely expected all summer.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.
"His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I am sure he will be a popular player with the fans."
But City caused the biggest surprise by signing the Brazil international Robinho for a British record fee of £32.5 million from Real Madrid, hours after Thaksin Shinawatra sold the club to a group based in the United Arab Emirates.
City manager Mark Hughes said: "It's been one hell of a day. It's a huge statement of intent. A lot of credit has got to go to Dr Thaksin for being able to bring the Abu Dhabi company to the table and this huge investment that is going to go forward."
