Iraq market car bomb kills many
At least 16 people have been killed and 20 wounded in a car bomb in the northern Iraqi city of Tal Afar.
A senior police official said a car was parked when it exploded by a vegetable market crowded with shoppers.
The attack was the biggest since suicide bombers struck Shi'ite pilgrims in Baghdad and a protest by Kurds in Kirkuk last month, killing nearly 60 people in total.
Tal Afar is an area where US-backed Iraqi forces have launched a crackdown Sunni Arab al-Qaeda militants.
US President George W Bush has refused to set a firm timetable for withdrawing 144,000 American troops from Iraq, but spoke last month of a general "time horizon" for a pullout.
Iraqi negotiators have proposed that US combat troops leave the country by October 2010,although Washington has not yet agreed to it.
