Pompey chew up Toffees
Portsmouth have ended a run of six successive Premier League defeats with a 3-0 win at Everton.
Last season's FA Cup winners Portsmouth, who last tasted league victory at West Ham United on April 8, took charge with early goals by Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson and, after Everton missed a penalty, added a third which Defoe and Peter Crouch could argue about on the journey home.
Defoe's long-range effort hit the bar and appeared to bounce beyond the goal-line before coming back out for new signing Crouch to nod home.
Meanwhile, Hull City's flying start to life in the Premier League ended emphatically when they were thrashed 5-0 at home by Wigan Athletic.
The were given a head start by an own-goal from Hull defender Samuel Ricketts after five minutes and then Antonio Valencia scored on 13 minutes to give Wigan an 2-0 half-time lead.
Egypt international Amr Zaki scored twice in the second half (63rd and 81st minutes) with an Emile Heskey goal sandwiched between them in 68th minute.
Elsewhere, West Ham beat Blackburn Rovers 4-1 at Upton Park thanks to goals from Calum Davenport (12 mins), Christopher Samba (own-goal, 20 mins), substitute Craig Bellamy (90 minutes) and Carlton Cole (injury time).
Blackburn had rallied midway through the first half when Jason Roberts made the score 2-1 in the 22nd minute before being killed off as the final whistle approached.
Arsenal swept aside Newcastle 3-0, with Robin van Persie hitting a brace at the Emirates Stadium. Brazil youngster Denilson completed the rout.
Middlesbrough beat Stoke City 2-1 with Daniel Alves (37 mins) and Tuncay (85 mins) doing the damage although Justin Hoyte had put through his own net to draw Stoke level on 71 minutes before the winner arrived.
Bolton Wanderers v West Bromwich Albion was goalless.
