Serial killer on trial
A self-confessed serial killer who targeted teenage girls is about to go on trial in France.
Michel Fourniret, 65, is accused of abducting, raping and murdering seven girls in France and Belgium.
His wife, Monique Olivier, 59 is alleged to have helped him by luring the victims into his clutches.
Fourniret, who is nicknamed "the Ogre of the Ardennes" has admitted the killings, but denies raping two of the victims.
Olivier is charged with murder, kidnap and four counts of acting as her husband's accomplice.
She allegedly told police she had "hunted virgins" for Fourniret, pretending to be lost while the couple drove around in a van looking for victims.
He is said to have boasted he was a "far better" murderer than Belgian serial killer Marc Dutroux.
The couple are suspected of a series of other murders, including that of British student Joanna Parrish, 20, who was found dead in Burgundy in 1990.
Their killing spree was halted in 2003 after a 13-year-old victim escaped from the van in Belgium and noted down the registration number.
Fourniret is expected to address the families of his victims when the trial begins in Charleville-Mezières in eastern France.
