England name unchanged squad

England have named an unchanged line-up as they prepare to face New Zealand in the second Test at Old Trafford.

The selectors brought Hampshire seamer Chris Tremlett into a 12-man squad for the match on Friday but have chosen to keep faith in the side that drew the series opener at Lord's.

Left-arm spinner Monty Panesar will hope to prosper at a ground where he has claimed 18 wickets in just two Tests

It means Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad and Lancashire seamer James Anderson will provide the pace options.

England skipper Michael Vaughan said: "Tremlett is bowling well. This kind of wicket could suit his style but I fully believe in consistency and the young lads deserve another crack.

"I felt they all bowled well in spells at Lord's and they could all bowl well on this kind of wicket so they deserve another opportunity to prove what they are made of. It's the fourth Test on the trot that we have picked the same team. I always feel comfortable when we start picking the same team on a consistent basis."

New Zealand may choose to play with two spinners because the pacy and bouncy wicket at Old Trafford has helped Monty Panesar claim 18 wickets in two Tests.

Captain Daniel Vettori said: "I've seen Monty quoted a few times saying this is one of his favourite grounds to bowl at.

"If he is coming out and saying it is a good deck to bowl at you sit up and take notice.

"Sometimes bowlers get carried away with the extra pace and bounce so they may have to adapt more than the batsmen.

"That is the key thing we are stressing now that the good lengths on a bouncy wicket are generally the same lengths we bowled at Lord's so we do not want to change too much."
