Scientists in Israel are celebrating after they helped a endangered sea turtle onto the road to recovery.

Surgeons feared Tchompy would have a bleak future after he was caught in a fishing line.

But the loggerhead sea turtle owes a debt of thanks to surgeons at the world famous Turtle Rescue Center.

The surgery to save the turtle's fin was crucial to his wellbeing.

Without a fin he would be likely to spend the rest of his years in captivity.

But with the operation a success he could soon be back in the Mediterranean Sea soon.
