Airport bomb hero fights for life
Glasgow Airport bomb hero John Smeaton is fighting for his life as two men accused of the attack stand trial.
The 32-year-old was reportedly rushed from his home in Paisley, Renfrewshire, to hospital after suffering a serious asthma attack on Thursday night.
He is understood to be in a serious but stable condition in intensive care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the same hospital where defendant Bilal Abdulla was working as a junior house officer at the time of the airport attack.
Bilal Abdulla, 29, and Mohammed Asha, 28, are on trial at Woolwich Crown Court, accused of attempting to murder hundreds of people with car bombs in London and Glasgow.
Sources said a similar asthma attack a decade ago almost killed Mr Smeaton.
The former airport worker, who recently revealed he was quitting Scotland for a new life in America, became an overnight celebrity after the incident.
Describing his efforts to foil the attack, he said: "This is Glasgow, you know - we'll set about you."
