Scolari targets trophies

Luiz Felipe Scolari has promised to play strong teams in all four competitions as he chases glory with Chelsea.

Since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, Chelsea have rarely experimented with young players in the first team.

"We have four competitions this season and I will try to win all four" - Luiz Felipe Scolari

Plenty of established internationals do not play regularly in the Premier League, so they have been used in a rotation system for less-important matches.

Scolari has promised to continue using international players in the FA Cup and Carling Cup.

He said: "We have four competitions this season and I will try to win all four.

"It is the same for the players. It will be very difficult but we have the team for it, we have the players for it. Chelsea have also given me everything I have wanted."

It seems Scolari must win a trophy in his first season in order to keep his job.

After all, Avram Grant was sacked after guiding the team to second place in the Premier League and the finals of both the Champions League and Carling Cup.

Scolari added: "Last year, they got into three finals and this is what I want.

"I know who my key players are. I have had 15 days with them and I know who is important for us to play more games than other players.

"You need to build a team around a few players in essential positions for important games and I now know who they are."
