Cameras in Court

Panel to debate the future for Cameras in Court - A long overdue change or a step too far?

ITN's Alastair Stewart chaired a panel event this week with key voices from across the broadcast industry, the judiciary and the Government. Following years of campaigning, the Ministry of Justice has announced that broadcasters will be allowed to screen court judgments for the first time in England and Wales. ITN hosted the debate, held in conjunction with The Media Society, showcasing the arguments for and against the change, what it will mean in practice and whether it goes far enough.

Panellists included the Right Honourable John Whittingdale MP, Professor Eric Barendt and Sir Ivan Lawrence QC, as well as Simon Bucks, Associate Editor at Sky News; Fran Unsworth, Head of Newsgathering at the BBC and ITN's Head of Compliance John Battle.

An introduction hosted by Mark Austin of ITV News
