Chinese tourists squeeze into attractions

Report & Video by Ashley Fudge

Excessive tourism has gripped China as thousands of people have packed attractions during a national holiday.

The opportunity to see the sights was too much to ignore and people flocked to places like the Great Wall of China to soak up the atmosphere.

However, the ambience was lacking and the ambling more widespread as visitors walked the wall at slow pace, struggling to stop in places for too long because of the long queues.

A major tourist jam at the Jiuzhaigou scenic spot in southwest China's Sichuan Province saw more than 40,000 people arrive on Wednesday, many struggling to get on a fleet of buses far less than needed.

Many visitors who contended with long snaking queues were left stranded outside for hours.

Authorities expect tourist destinations to remain especially busy during China's National Day holiday.
