The Rio de Janeiro Carnival kicked off in style at the city's iconic Sambadrome on Friday.
Over the three day carnival, samba schools from across the city will show off their skills and impress the judges with their choreography, singing, and costumes.
Each samba school has exactly 90 minutes to parade the half-mile long Sambadrome, at one of the most extravagant celebrations in the world.
Kicking-off the festivities, the Unidos do Jacarezinho samba school was the first to strut their stuff.
This year the school's theme song was in honor of legendary samba singer, Jamelão, born exactly 100 years ago.
The celebrations attract crowds of thousands and millions will take part in street parties across the city.
