Dolphin washed up in wake of Superstorm Sandy

Report by Sophie Foster

Superstorm Sandy forced a dolphin onto a beach in New Jersey on Tuesday.

The animal was washed ashore by the storm which had made landfall near Atlantic City the previous evening.

It could be seen squirming on Point Pleasant Beach, before animal rescue officials were called to the scene.

It comes as the region begins crawling back to normality following the cyclone, with coastal area being cleaned up and services slowly being resumed.

Financial markets have reopened, while packed buses took residents back to work with the subway system halted after seawater flooded its tunnels.

With six days to go before the elections, President Barack Obama is also visiting storm-ravaged areas of the New Jersey shore.
