Aerial footage has been released of bank robbers flinging fistfuls of dollars out of their car's windows whilst being chased by police through downtown Los Angeles.

Four suspects robbed a Bank of America on Wednesday and then threw wads of cash out of their car.

Local reports said some of the suspects jumped out of their dark SUV during two separate stops.

One of the suspects threw the notes as the driver weaved through an LA neighborhood, narrowly missing cars and pedestrians, before driving on to a pavement.

The chase footage shows a line of police cars in hot pursuit of the SUV until it finally slows down as it is blocked off by a lane of oncoming traffic.

Large crowds gathered around the getaway vehicle as police handcuffed two suspects and took them away in squad cars.
