At least 23 people were injured after a charter bus dramatically crashed into a bridge in southern Illinois.

The double decker Megabus was en route from Chicago to St. Louis, Missouri, when the driver lost control, crashing the bus near Litchfield, Illinois.

Dozens of emergency vehicles lined the highway as medics helped the injured.

Aerial footage showed traffic at a standstill on Interstate 55, which was closed in both directions.
