Colorado District Attorney Carol Chambers has said the death penalty could be a possibility for Batman shooting suspect James Holmes.

At a press conference after Holmes' court appearance, she said that a decision on the death penalty "is months down the line".

Holmes, 24, is suspected of killing 12 people at a midnight screening on Friday of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.

Formal charges will be filed against him next Monday.
