One year on, Norway is remembering the 77 people killed in the gun and bomb attacks in Oslo and on the island of Utoeya.

The Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and King Harald lead a ceremony in Oslo, where a wreath was laid.

"The bomb and bullets were aimed at changing Norway. The Norwegian people responded by embracing our values," Stoltenberg said.

"Let us honour the dead by being happy about the life they had, and the life we share."

Hundreds are expected to return to Utoeya Island later, including the families of the those killed.

The man who has admitted carrying out the attacks, Anders Behring Breivik, is on trial.

This evening there will be a national memorial concert.
