Taiwan have blasted more than 25 missiles in a joint forces live-fire exercise in the southern Pingtung County.

President Ma Ying-Jeou has told troops to beef up their defences against a possible Chinese attack, despite hostilities recently easing between the two rivals.

The two sides split amid civil war in 1949.

The troops will apparently continue their live-fire drills throughout the year.
