Pictures of smoke from wildfires in western parts of the United States have been captured by a Nasa space satellite.

More than 40 large, uncontained fires have been fought across the country, the bulk of them in the western states.

Colorado is said to be experiencing its worst ever wildfire season.

President Barack Obama went to visit fire-ravaged areas of the state on Friday.
