Hong Kong architect creates 24 room 'micro-flat'

Report by Sam Datta-Paulin

A Hong Kong based architect has caused a sensation in his native city, with perhaps the world's most diverse studio flat.

Gary Chong wanted to get a bit more space out of his meagre 32 square metre apartment, so he set to with a little DIY.

After a year of careful planning and construction, Gary managed to fit in a bedroom, kitchen, TV, library, sofa, bar, and bathroom with bath.

Most of the walls in the apartment move on steel tracks in the ceiling, and slide to allow use of one feature or another, with 24 possible room layouts.

Gary has lived in the cramped apartment for 30 years, and says adapting to the space inspired him to become an architect.
