Sweat, strain and splashing at Hong Kong's dragon boat races

Hundreds of people gathered at Aberdeen Harbour in Hong Kong to watch the country's annual dragon boat races.

The event marks the Dragon Boat Festival, an exciting and colourful traditional Chinese celebration.

The crowds cheered and waved flags as the boats went past.

One spectator who brought his daughter along was a little disappointed though saying: "I can't find a seat and need to stand here to watch the race. But the weather is good today, it is not raining. So it's okay."

The participants in the race, who were both young and old, dug deep and paddled hard to try to beat their competitors.

Once all the boats had passed safely through the finish line, they celebrated by splashing each other with water.
