Powerful thunderstorms battered the east coast of the United States on Friday, causing havoc in parts of Washington DC and Pennsylvania.
In Washington, evening commuters had to battle more than just traffic. Heavy rains flooded one underpass, catching motorists unawares. One SUV was flooded to its roof. Rescue crews were able to get the passengers of both vehicles to safety.
In Pennsylvania, powerful winds snapped massive trees, dropping them across houses, roads and power lines.
It was not immediately known if tornadoes had touched down in the area, but in some areas outside of Pittsburgh, large clusters of trees had been downed.
