Zombie racing in the Philippines

Report by Jeremy Barnes

Thousands have run for their lives after being chased by hordes of "zombies" in a survival-themed race in the Philippines.

Around 5,000 chose to tackle a series of natural and man-made obstacles, all the while dodging the living dead, on a three-mile course.

Organisers have taken their lead from a similar competition in the United States.

Around 200 actors dressed as zombies hid behind trees, bushes and rocky uphill climbs to surprise the unsuspecting runners.

They symbolically eat their brains by stealing health flags attached to the runners' waists.

Runners are considered "dead" when they lose all three flags.
