Extreme skiing and snowboarding at freeride championships

Report by Mark Morris

Extreme skiers Reine Barkered and Christine Hargin have been crowned freeride world champions on the slopes of Vernier in Switzerland.

Frenchman Jonathan Charlet and American Maria Debari won the men and women's snowboard equivalent.

The four extreme sportspeople were victorious in the competition's final round, which was also enough to collect the overall world titles.

Some 8,500 spectators gathered to watch the competition.
