UK's image 'enhanced by Olympics'

Report & Video by Ashley Fudge

The Olympics have helped Britain dispel the image of a nation with a stiff upper lip which that know how to party.

A new worldwide survey has bumped the UK from 12th to ninth position when it comes to giving out a warm welcome.

The research said this was down to the 2012 Games which was broadcast globally and included pictures of Olympic ambassadors out on the streets helping visitors.

The findings from 15 countries conducted by VisitBritain also rated the UK higher for sporting prowess.

Chief executive Sandie Dawe said: "We intend to build on these encouraging results to ensure we turn that increased goodwill into visitors and deliver a growth in tourism that will deliver jobs across the country."

However, the global view of Britain as being "rich in natural beauty" barely improved.
