England U21 Danny Rose's dad speaks out on racist abuse

Report by Rob Gillett

The father of England under-21 player Danny Rose has spoken out over abuse directed at his son during Tuesday night's Euro 2013 play-off against Serbia.

Nigel Rose said he "could not believe that black players could still suffer racist abuse in this day and age" and that watching the scenes unfold last night was "like a bad dream".

Sports minister Hugh Robertson has called on UEFA to use the evidence available to take tough action against the Serbian FA after it issued a statement denying racist abuse of players.

Danny Rose said he had been subjected to monkey chants and hit by missiles from the stands

The Serbian FA has denied his claims and accused Rose himself of behaving in an "inappropriate, unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner" towards its fans.
