Two people have been arrested at Heathrow airport on suspicion of committing terrorism offenses.

A man and a woman were held after arriving on a flight into the airport. The arrests are part of an investigation into travel to Syria in support of alleged terrorist activity.

The pair, both aged 26, were arrested by officers from the London Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command.

They have been detained on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism and remain in custody.

Officers are searching two addresses in east London under the Terrorism Act in connection as part of their investigation.
