On the first day of the party conference Labour MPs hit the football pitch to battle it out in a match against the press.

The politicians secured a resounding victory at Salford City Football Club, beating the Press Lobby XI team 3-0.

Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls scored two of the goals, with Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham scoring one.

The pre-conference match is an annual event.
