A minke whale has been put down after it was found stranded on a North Sea beach in Northumberland.

Experts from a marine charity went to its aid when it was found in Druridge Bay on Wednesday morning.

A vet examined the whale and concluded that the animal could not be returned to the sea because it had lost too much body weight to be strong enough to survive by itself.
