The Grammy Award-winning singer Adele has revealed she is pregnant with her first child.

In a statement on her official website, the 24-year-old said she and her boyfriend Simon Konecki were thrilled about the news.

She wrote: "I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.

"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx."

The announcement comes after an incredibly successful 18 months in the singer's life, during which she has become a global sensation.

She won six Grammy awards in February, including best album for 21 and record of the year for Rolling In The Deep.
