Olympic Torch recreates Chariots of Fire scene

Report by Sam Datta-Paulin

A group of young runners have re-created an iconic scene from the film Chariots of Fire in its original location, using the Olympic Torch.

As the flame passed St Andrew's beach in Scotland, runners from the Madras Primary School, led by Joseph Forrester, 13, whose dream is to run for Team GB in long distance events, jogged along the surf with the torch.

The scene mimicked the beach run in the 1981 film, which, although it was set in Broadstairs, Kent, was filmed at the location.

"It was amazing and I am still shocked that this many people came to see me run with it and I am just really happy they came. I only though there'd be like a few people here. There's quite a lot of people just come to see run, re-enacting that film Chariots of Fire," Joseph said.

The film has been re-released to coincide with the Games.
