Wingsuit Glider was 'never in doubt' he would succeed

Wingsuit glider 42-year-old Gary Connery, who wowed crowds by falling 2,400ft onto a pile of boxes without a parachute, has insisted he never doubted his success.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "I feel incredible, just completely elated.

"I have been training and planning for this record attempt for many years now and I am so proud to have achieved a world first.

"I want to thank everyone involved for their support and belief in me because this really has been a team effort.

"Tonight will be all about celebrating with friends and family, tomorrow I will be plotting my next daring challenge."

Gary, who has previously base-jumped from the Eiffel Tower and Nelson's Column, used a special "wingsuit" to make the death-defying leap above the fields of Oxfordshire.

He hit the boxes at around 80mph, using the suit to steer and slow his descent.
