The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have paid their respects at a Commonwealth war cemetery as their Diamond Jubilee tour of Singapore drew to a close.

During the Second World War thousands of British and Commonwealth servicemen died in defence of Singapore and in the subsequent occupation by Japanese forces.

The royal couple paid tribute to their sacrifice by laying a wreath made of local flowers at the Kranji Commonwealth War Cemetery.

Later on Thursday they will travel to Kuala Lumpur to continue their tour of Asia and the Far East.
