Norfolk and Lapthorne take wheelchair tennis silver

Report by Mark Morris

Peter Norfolk and Andy Lapthorne lost out in their bid for wheelchair tennis quad doubles gold as American duo David Wagner and Nick Taylor beat them 6-2 5-7 6-2 at Eton Manor.

The American pair won the opening set comfortably, taking it 6-2, and although Norfolk and Lapthorne rallied to claim the second set the defending champions proved too strong in the decider.

It meant Norfolk, known as the Quadfather, had to settle for a silver medal as compensation for his failure to defend his quad singles title.

Lapthorne said: "We went into it as the world number one pair and started off too slow and that cost us in the end.

"But from my first Games, to have one of these [silver medal], when I woke up this morning was a great feeling."

"I'm still absolutely gutted that it's not gold though," he admitted.
