Olympic rings taken down from Tower Bridge

Report by Sophie Foster

The Olympic rings which hung from Tower Bridge during the Games have been taken down in preparation for the forthcoming Paralympics.

The rings, which weigh three tonnes, have been suspended from one of the capital's most iconic landmarks over the last few weeks.

The Paralympic Games officially open on August 29, with the official flag being raised in Downing Street on Monday.

David Cameron said: "I would like to congratulate all of Britain's athletes selected for ParalympicsGB.

"This is a huge achievement and the result of years of training and hard work, but all that dedication and persistence is about to pay off."
