Boris Johnson has praised the efforts of Team GB athletes and the thousands of volunteers who helped make the London 2012 Olympic Games a success.
The Mayor of London was speaking following Sunday night's spectacular closing ceremony which featured some of Britain's biggest music stars including the Spice Girls, Jessie J, George Michael and One Direction.
Addressing the crowd at GB House, Boris said: "This is a moment for congratulations for the greatest team of athletes this country has ever assembled."
He went on to thank the organising committees, volunteers and members of the armed services who he said "pulled our chestnuts out of the fire" following the G4S security scandal.
The mayor then told the members of Team GB in the audience: "You have won with fair play and sportsmanship... Propelled by no stimulant more sinister than MacDonalds or Coca-Cola."
