Team USA's athletes have taken to the track, field and pool for victory - but there is one furry member of the squad who is putting a smile on everyone's faces - regardless of where they are from.

Sesame Street's Elmo has arrived in London and pulled on his sports kit to celebrate the Games.

The little red monster told reporters he "loves the Olympics", before rattling off a stream of facts about the competition.

"The first recorded ancient Olympic Games were in Olympia, Greece, in 776 BC," he said.

"That was before cartoons."

Elmo added that he, along with his friend Grover, had been watching the women's football but had not had a chance to see any of the athletics.
