Female Saudi Arabian runner proud despite Olympics exit

Report by Simon Parker

Saudi Arabian 800 metre runner Sarah Attar became the first female to represent her country in track and field on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old was over thirty seconds adrift of her nearest competitor but hoped her inclusion in the Games would act as an inspiration to women in her country.

"I think it really shows that there is progress," said Attar.

"This was just an amazing thing and for women in Saudi Arabia I think it can be inspiring."
