Ennis rules out hurdles bid after heptathlon win

Report by Mark Morris

Britain's gold medal heptathlon hero Jess Ennis has ruled out appearing in the individual 100 metres hurdles at London 2012.

Ennis had entered herself for the event, which has heats on Monday and a final on Tuesday, in case she had any problems in

the heptathlon.

But, after sparking off a British gold medal hat-trick in the Olympic Stadium last night, Ennis is ready for a break.

Sitting alongside Greg Rutherford at a medal winners press conference at Team GB House, she said: "My name was put down

for the hurdles just as a back-up plan and I never really had any intention of doing it because the heptathlon was my main focus.

"But then when I ran the time that I did in the hurdles it kind of made me think, 'shall I give it a go?'."

She continued: "But this is what I have worked so hard for - the heptathlon - and I just want to enjoy this moment and make the

most of it.

"To be honest, the way I'm feeling tired-wise, my body's aching and I don't think I could be at the level I need to be for the heat".
