After an astonishing series of runs, Britain's Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell have won the gold medal in the women's team pursuit in a world record time.

The trio beat the USA by over five seconds in a time of of 3:14.051, their third record in a velodrome which has long been lauded for its potential speed, and has clearly lived up to the hype.

In front of a roaring home crowd, King, Trott and Rowsell seemed confident and in control throughout the race.

The reigning world champions' triumph continued an outstanding run of form for Team GB's cyclists which has seen the squad climb the medal table.

The latest win follows a series of golds in the velodrome including in the women's keirin, men's team pursuit and men's team sprint.
