Olympic athletes create patriotic nails trend

Report by Lauren Hood

Sports stars appear to be more patriotic than ever if their finger nails are anything to go by.

A number of athletes have been flaunting nail art of their national flag in a beauty trend sweeping the 2012 Games.

Medal winners Rebecca Adlington and Ryta Meilutyte flashed their decorated nails while standing on the podium.

A salon set up in the Olympic village is seeing up to 40 athletes a day asking for a patriotic pedicure.

Procter and Gamble's head of grooming Kathryn Davies says there are two flags which are very popular: "Well the first week the Union Jack absolutely won hands down, I mean we're in Britain so that's no surprise, so we did a lovely lot of Union Jacks.

"And the second week, much to our surprise, the USA took over, so I'm not sure whether that's just because the USA are a particularly bubbly and vivacious nation who particularly wanted to show their love of their country, or whether it's because it's a big team."
