As the London 2012 Games get underway, thousands of people have travelled to the Olympic Park in east London.

Visitors from all parts of the world descended on the venue in Stratford for the first full day of the Games.

As well as soaking up the atmosphere, the warm weather meant Olympics fans were able to soak up the sun.

Some strolled around the grounds, while others relaxed in the gardens, where they could watch the sporting action on giant screens.

One visitor said: "I think it's absolutely superb, it's brilliant. This is a once in a lifetime event and we just want to take in as much as we can."
